Why a Shopify store will not read

Storeprobe reads the public catalogue of the tab you click on. When it cannot, it stops and says why. These are the cases.

The page is not a Shopify store

The reader looks for Shopify’s own window.Shopify object on the page. A store on another platform, or a page that is not a storefront, has none, so there is nothing to read.

The page is not https

Only https pages are read. A plain http page is refused.

Status 404 or 410

The store keeps its products list private. Some merchants hide /products.json, and then there is no public catalogue to read.

Status 429

The store asked for fewer requests. Wait a few minutes and click again. Storeprobe has already stopped, and it keeps nothing from the partial read.

Status 401 or 403, or a page instead of data

This is usually a bot check. Open the store, pass whatever check it shows, and try again later.

The read is marked partial

A read stops at 10 pages of 250 products. On a bigger catalogue the result is labelled partial, and a product that is missing may only be unread.

The tab could not be read

Reload the store page and click the Storeprobe icon again.
